Gurugram Hit-And-Run: Royal Enfield Club Urges Riders to Follow Lane Discipline

A road rage incident involving a woman biker on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road has drawn widespread attention after a video of the alleged crash went viral on social media. The rider claimed that a white sedan rammed into her Aprilia RS 457 before fleeing the scene. The incident has renewed concerns over road safety, lane discipline and the risks faced by motorcyclists on busy urban roads, prompting rider communities to discuss safer driving practices and greater awareness among all road users.

Amid the discussion, members of the Royal Enfield Noida Club spoke about the challenges faced by bikers on Indian roads and the need for motorists to exercise patience. Pankaj Poptani and Ishan Sharma shared their views on rider awareness, group riding and ways to avoid confrontational situations while travelling through crowded city routes. They stressed that responsible road behaviour must involve both motorists and bikers, particularly in situations where sudden lane changes, close overtaking or misunderstandings can lead to dangerous encounters.

Pankaj Poptani pointed out that bikers face several difficulties, including limited access to expressways and inconsistent lane discipline among road users. He said motorists should remain mindful when approaching riders travelling in groups, as motorcycles may not always be able to stop immediately when another vehicle signals or asks them to pull over. According to him, riders must first assess whether stopping is safe and determine who is approaching before making a sudden decision on the road.

He also highlighted how impatience and miscommunication can quickly escalate into road rage. A rider who slows down or changes position may be attempting to avoid danger rather than ignore another road user’s request. Similarly, motorists should avoid aggressive gestures, unnecessary honking or forcing motorcycles toward the edge of the road. Maintaining a safe distance, using indicators and allowing adequate space for two-wheelers can help prevent minor disagreements from turning into serious confrontations.

The Royal Enfield club’s broader safety message focused on lane discipline, defensive riding and remaining alert in unpredictable traffic conditions. Bikers were advised to avoid abrupt manoeuvres, maintain visibility, use protective riding gear and remain cautious when travelling in groups. At the same time, car drivers were urged to check blind spots, respect motorcycles’ road space and avoid treating smaller vehicles as obstacles that can be pushed aside.

The Gurugram incident has once again underlined the importance of mutual respect and patience on city roads. While the exact circumstances of the alleged collision and the subsequent action remain subject to official findings, the discussion has highlighted the need for safer interactions between motorists and bikers. Road users can reduce the risk of accidents and road rage by following lane rules, communicating calmly and prioritising safety over speed or confrontation.
