Gujarati Folk Singer Continues Performing as Devotees Shower Lakhs During Live Event

A Gujarati folk singer has gone viral on social media after a video showed devotees showering him with large amounts of cash during a traditional Dayro performance in Gujarat’s Junagadh district. The incident, which took place in Khambhaliya village, has sparked widespread discussion online, with viewers reacting to both the scale of the cash offerings and the singer’s calm continuation of the performance amid the spectacle. 

The singer, identified as Gopal Sadh, was performing devotional and folk music at the cultural event when audience members began throwing bundles and sacks of currency notes onto the stage. Videos circulating online show Sadh seated with a harmonium, continuing to sing uninterrupted even as piles of cash accumulated around and on top of him. At one point, the money reportedly covered much of the stage area and nearly obscured the singer from view. 

Dayro programmes are a popular form of Gujarati folk entertainment that blend music, storytelling, humour, and devotional performances, particularly in rural areas of the state. Such events often attract large gatherings, with performers receiving monetary gifts from admirers as a mark of respect and appreciation. However, the sheer scale of the cash offerings seen in the viral video drew unusual attention and quickly turned the clip into a trending topic across multiple social media platforms.

Online reactions to the video were mixed. This is not the first time videos of Gujarati folk singers being showered with cash have gone viral. Similar incidents involving bhajan and folk performers have surfaced in previous years, including events featuring noted singer Kirtidan Gadhvi, where devotees publicly offered large sums during live performances. Such traditions, while culturally rooted, periodically trigger debates about extravagance, religious patronage, and public displays of wealth. 

The latest viral clip has once again drawn national attention to Gujarat’s folk music culture and the enduring popularity of live devotional performances in the state. Even as the video continues to circulate widely online, it has also reignited broader conversations about cultural traditions, public generosity, and the role of social media in amplifying local events into nationwide talking points.
