Gujarat CM Sends ₹5 Crore Aid, Flags Off Relief Train for Flood-Hit Punjab

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel flagged off a special relief train from Gandhinagar Capital Railway Station on Thursday, carrying 400 tonnes of essential supplies to support flood-affected communities in Punjab. The train, loaded with wheat flour, onions, potatoes, rice, groundnut oil, sugar, milk powder, 10,000 tarpaulins, 10,000 mosquito nets, 10,000 bed sheets, and 70 tonnes of medicines, aims to provide immediate relief to those impacted by severe flooding in the state.

In addition to the relief train, Patel announced financial assistance of Rs 5 crore each to Punjab and Chhattisgarh to aid their flood relief efforts, as confirmed by Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel, the state government’s spokesperson. The minister noted that Gujarat recently dispatched 8,000 kits of relief materials and food items to Chhattisgarh, demonstrating the state’s commitment to supporting neighboring regions during natural calamities.

The operation was coordinated by multiple Gujarat state departments to ensure swift delivery of aid to Punjab, which has faced devastating floods affecting over 354,000 people and submerging 1,400 villages, according to recent reports. The initiative reflects Gujarat’s proactive response to humanitarian crises, with similar efforts extended to Chhattisgarh, where heavy rainfall has caused significant damage.

Chief Minister Patel is also set to visit rain-affected areas in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district alongside Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary and other ministers to assess ongoing relief operations. The state continues to prioritize disaster response and recovery, both locally and in support of other flood-hit regions.
