Gujarat CM Reviews Flood Situation In Ahmedabad, Speeds Up Relief Work

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Friday visited several flood-affected areas of Ahmedabad to review the situation after heavy rainfall caused severe waterlogging across parts of the city. The Chief Minister inspected affected localities, including Bopal, Ambli, and Ghuma, and directed officials to accelerate relief, drainage, and restoration efforts to provide immediate assistance to residents facing difficulties due to accumulated rainwater.

During his visit to Bopal, Patel entered the flooded areas on foot to assess the conditions firsthand and interacted with local residents. He reviewed ongoing drainage operations and the progress of relief and rescue measures with senior officials present at the site. The Chief Minister instructed authorities to deploy additional manpower, equipment, and resources to ensure faster clearance of waterlogged areas.

Officials said Patel directed departments concerned to work on a priority basis and ensure that no residential society remained affected by prolonged water accumulation. He emphasised the need for a coordinated response to resolve waterlogging issues and restore normal conditions in areas impacted by heavy rainfall. Authorities were also asked to continue monitoring vulnerable locations and address public complaints quickly.

Later, Patel visited Ambli and Ghuma before holding a review meeting with senior officials from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), police department, and other government agencies. The meeting was attended by Cabinet Minister Rushikesh Patel, Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot, Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, and other officials. The Chief Minister reviewed the extent of rainwater accumulation and assessed the challenges faced by residents.

Patel also instructed officials to focus on cleanliness and public health measures after floodwaters recede to prevent further problems. Officials informed him that complaints related to waterlogging, fallen trees, road damage, and other rain-related incidents were being addressed on priority. The Ahmedabad civic body said emergency teams responded to multiple incidents involving fallen trees and branches during the heavy rainfall.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation said its teams cleared fallen trees and branches across different zones of the city, ensuring that no major roads remained blocked due to such incidents. The civic body added that its 24-hour emergency response system continued to operate to minimise inconvenience to residents. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Patel is scheduled to chair a review meeting at the State Emergency Operation Centre to assess the overall rainfall situation across Gujarat.
