Gujarat CM courts investors ahead of VGGS 2027.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held one-to-one meetings with senior industrialists in Mumbai on Thursday as the state intensified its investor outreach ahead of the 11th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in January 2027. The discussions covered potential expansions and new investments across manufacturing, electric vehicles, renewable energy, copper recycling, textiles and financial services. The meetings were part of a VGGS 2027 roadshow hosted at The Taj Mahal Palace.

Patel's meeting with Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra focused on opportunities to expand the group's presence in Gujarat, particularly in electric mobility, future mobility and a possible presence in GIFT City. The Chief Minister highlighted Gujarat's port-led logistics network, industrial infrastructure and policy framework as factors supporting advanced manufacturing and financial services. Consuls General are also scheduled to attend the evening roadshow as the state seeks greater engagement with industry and the diplomatic community.

Discussions with AM/NS India CEO Amit Harlalka centred on the company's ongoing and proposed investments in Gujarat. Patel highlighted the company's vision for a large-scale steel manufacturing facility in the state, with an eventual capacity of 25 million tonnes. He also noted the company's Rs 80,000 crore ongoing capital investment programme and an additional Rs 10,000 crore commitment towards renewable energy and battery storage systems at Hazira. AM/NS India had earlier announced a Rs 60,000 crore project to raise its Hazira capacity from 9 million tonnes to 15 million tonnes annually.

Patel also met Hindalco Industries Managing Director Satish Pai to discuss the company's expansion in Gujarat's manufacturing sector, including copper recycling, e-waste management and circular-economy initiatives. The discussions included the planned inauguration of Hindalco's copper recycling plant in December and potential further investments in sustainable industrial practices. With circular manufacturing emerging as an important investment area, Gujarat is seeking to attract projects that combine industrial growth with resource efficiency.

Textiles and manufacturing were another focus during Patel's meeting with Welspun Living CEO and Managing Director Dipali Goenka. The discussions covered expansion of the company's manufacturing footprint, growth in technical textiles and modernisation of operations at its facilities in Anjar and Vapi. Patel highlighted the Gujarat Textile Policy 2024 as a mechanism that could support investment, exports, employment and skills development in the sector.

The Mumbai roadshow follows a VGGS 2027 curtain-raiser held in New Delhi on August 31, where Gujarat invited domestic and international investors to explore opportunities in manufacturing, emerging technologies and green growth. The 11th summit is scheduled for January 10-12, 2027, under the theme "Viksit Gujarat – Shaping Global Future". The event is expected to focus on sectors including semiconductors, fintech, green hydrogen, artificial intelligence and green growth, with the latest Mumbai meetings extending the state's investment outreach across several of these priority areas.
