Gujarat Assembly Cleared After Bomb Threat Forces Evacuation

Bomb threat email triggers evacuation; Gujarat Assembly cleared after search

A bomb threat disrupted proceedings at the Gujarat Assembly complex on Wednesday morning during the ongoing budget session, prompting an immediate security response and evacuation of the premises.

According to officials, the threat was received via email shortly before the House was scheduled to convene at 9 am. Authorities were alerted around 8:45 am, following which all legislators, staff members, and visitors were asked to vacate the Assembly complex as a precautionary measure.

Police teams, along with bomb detection and disposal squads and dog units, were deployed to carry out a thorough search of the premises. Senior police officials confirmed that extensive checks were conducted across the complex to ensure safety. However, no suspicious objects were found during the operation.

The incident led to a delay in the start of Assembly proceedings, which resumed only after security clearance was given. Entry to the complex remained restricted during the search, and security measures were tightened in and around the Secretariat area.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the threat email may have been a hoax. Police have initiated a probe to trace the origin of the message, with cyber teams examining its source. A case is expected to be registered following initial findings.

The development comes amid a series of recent bomb threat emails reported in parts of Gujarat, including schools and public institutions, raising concerns about misuse of digital communication to trigger panic. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm while emphasizing that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
