Green Corridor Phase 2 Inaugurated in Lucknow; Foundation Laid for Phase 3 and 4 Worth Rs 1,220 Crore

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday inaugurated the second phase of the Green Corridor Project in Lucknow, a major urban development initiative aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity across the state capital. The newly inaugurated stretch runs from Daliganj Pakka Pul to Samatamulak Chauraha, and is expected to significantly reduce travel time for commuters moving through the busy parts of the city.

The second phase of the corridor has been constructed at a cost of around ₹299 crore and is designed to streamline traffic movement in areas that frequently witness heavy congestion. Officials said the project forms an important part of the broader urban mobility plan for Lucknow, where rapid population growth and increasing vehicle numbers have placed pressure on existing road infrastructure. By creating a smoother traffic flow along the corridor, authorities expect the project to reduce delays and improve the daily commuting experience for residents.

During the event, the two senior leaders also laid the foundation stones for the third and fourth phases of the Green Corridor project. These upcoming phases are estimated to cost around ₹1,220 crore, indicating the scale of the government’s long-term plan to expand the city’s road network. The additional phases are expected to further enhance connectivity between different parts of Lucknow and support the city’s expanding urban development.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath congratulated the residents of Lucknow and said the city continues to grow while maintaining its cultural identity. Referring to the well-known phrase associated with the city, he remarked that Lucknow truly reflects the spirit of “Muskuraiye, aap Lucknow mein hain,” highlighting the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure while preserving the city’s heritage and charm.

Several senior officials and leaders attended the function, including Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, along with local representatives and government authorities involved in the project. The inauguration marks another step in the state government’s push to modernise infrastructure in key urban centres while addressing the growing transportation needs of residents.

The Green Corridor initiative is part of a broader effort by the Uttar Pradesh government to upgrade road infrastructure and improve urban mobility in major cities. With the completion of future phases, authorities expect the corridor to play a significant role in reducing traffic bottlenecks, supporting economic activity, and improving overall connectivity within Lucknow.
