Govt Data Shows Nearly 24,000 Infiltrators Apprehended Since 2014; None on India-China Border
Government reveals massive arrests along borders, none from China.
In a comprehensive disclosure to the Lok Sabha that highlights the varying security challenges across India's vast international boundaries, the Central Government has reported the apprehension of 23,926 infiltrators by security forces since 2014. Significantly, the data emphasises that no infiltration incidents have been recorded along the India-China border throughout this entire period, reflecting effective management and distinct geopolitical dynamics on the northern frontier.
The highest volume of apprehensions has occurred along the India-Bangladesh border, with 18,851 individuals arrested, pointing to the persistent vulnerabilities associated with this extensive and densely populated frontier. This segment alone accounts for the majority of cases, underscoring the ongoing efforts required to monitor and secure one of the world's longest international boundaries.
Further breakdowns reveal 1,165 infiltrators apprehended along the India-Myanmar border, known for its rugged terrain and free-movement regimes in certain areas, while 556 arrests were made along the India-Pakistan border, a highly militarised zone. Additionally, 234 cases were recorded across the combined borders with Nepal and Bhutan, which feature open and porous characteristics facilitating cross-border movement.

For the period from 2014 to 2024, a total of 20,806 infiltrators were arrested along the borders with Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, Nepal, and Bhutan, with an additional 3,120 apprehensions recorded between January and November 2025. The 2025 monthly data shows continued activity, particularly with 2,556 arrests on the India-Bangladesh border, 437 on the India-Myanmar border, 49 on the India-Pakistan border, and 78 on the Nepal-Bhutan frontiers. The government, through Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, reiterated in response to queries from Trinamool Congress MPs that no infiltrators have been apprehended along the India-China border, even in the current year.
This contrasting pattern of infiltration attempts across different borders demonstrates the multifaceted nature of India's border security strategy, with robust mechanisms evidently deterring unauthorised crossings along the Himalayan frontier with China, while sustained operations address challenges on other fronts to safeguard national sovereignty and internal security.
