Maharashtra Governor outlines $1 trillion contribution to India’s economic goal.

Jishnu Dev Varma announced on Friday that Maharashtra is expected to contribute nearly $1 trillion toward India’s broader $5 trillion economy goal, as the country advances toward the vision of a developed nation under “Viksit Bharat 2047.” The statement was made during the Maharashtra Day celebrations held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park in Mumbai, where he outlined the state’s economic and developmental roadmap.

The Governor emphasized that Maharashtra’s “Viksit Maharashtra 2047” vision document will be central to achieving long-term growth targets. He called for active participation from all sections of society, stressing that inclusive development is essential for transforming the state into a global economic powerhouse. According to him, Maharashtra’s expanding industrial base and infrastructure push will play a decisive role in shaping India’s economic future.

A key highlight of his address was Maharashtra’s growing profile as an investment destination. He noted that memorandums of understanding worth ₹31.25 lakh crore were signed at the World Economic Forum in Davos, reflecting strong investor confidence. The state government’s new industrial policy is expected to attract ₹70.5 lakh crore in investments, potentially generating around 50 lakh direct jobs, supported by a dedicated Foreign Direct Investment desk to streamline approvals.

In addition to industrial growth, Varma underscored several welfare and agricultural initiatives. He said more than ₹15,950 crore has been directly transferred to over one crore farmers affected by natural calamities. He also highlighted Maharashtra’s achievement in installing over 45,000 solar pumps, which earned recognition in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The Governor concluded by outlining social and employment-focused initiatives, including skill development programs, women empowerment schemes, and recruitment drives for government posts. He also acknowledged the contribution of workers on the occasion of International Labour Day and paid tribute to the martyrs of the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, reaffirming the state’s commitment to balanced and inclusive development across all sectors.
