Government Reviews Phase-Wise Withdrawal Of Crisis-Era Fuel Supply Rules

Government reviews phased rollback of emergency fuel supply measures.

The government is considering a phased rollback of emergency fuel supply measures that were introduced during the recent West Asia crisis, as authorities continue to monitor supply conditions, demand patterns, and overall market stability before easing restrictions.

According to official sources, the restrictions were implemented as a precautionary step to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability across the country during a period of global uncertainty. These measures were aimed at safeguarding domestic energy supplies and preventing disruptions in the distribution of essential fuels such as petrol, diesel, and natural gas.

Officials have indicated that while discussions on easing the restrictions have begun, no final decision has been taken yet. The situation is being reviewed on a daily basis, and any relaxation will depend on sustained improvements in supply conditions and a stable fuel market environment over time.

As part of the emergency response, the government had prioritised natural gas supplies for critical sectors to maintain continuity of essential services. In addition, LPG distribution norms were tightened, with reduced allocations to commercial and industrial users to preserve stocks for household consumption, along with a longer waiting period between cylinder refills.

Authorities also introduced stricter monitoring mechanisms to prevent hoarding and ensure steady availability of petrol and diesel. These steps were intended to balance demand and supply during the crisis and maintain market stability amid global disruptions affecting energy flows.

Officials said the current review reflects a cautious and calibrated approach, as supply pressures show signs of easing but remain under observation. The timeline for lifting restrictions will depend on consistent normalisation of conditions, with the government continuing to prioritise energy security and stable access for consumers.
