Government Confirms Stable Fuel And LPG Supply, No Price Increase Planned

Centre confirms stable fuel and LPG supplies across India with no immediate plans for price hikes.

The Centre on Monday said that supplies of petrol, diesel, and domestic LPG across the country remain stable despite global energy market volatility and ongoing tensions in West Asia. Officials from the Petroleum Ministry confirmed that there is currently no proposal under consideration to increase retail fuel prices, assuring that consumers continue to be protected from international crude oil fluctuations.

During an inter-ministerial briefing, the government highlighted that fuel availability at retail outlets remains uninterrupted, with no reports of shortages across the country. According to officials, domestic LPG demand has remained strong, supported by high refill bookings and efficient distribution systems. Delivery authentication rates have reached 94%, indicating smooth supply chain operations.

The government also shared data on LPG usage, noting that commercial LPG consumption has reached around 215,000 tonnes, while auto LPG sales stand at 11,100 tonnes since April. Smaller 5kg domestic LPG cylinders have achieved full coverage, with approximately 2.3 million units sold in the past month. Authorities said awareness campaigns and outreach initiatives have further boosted adoption, resulting in additional cylinder sales across rural and urban areas.

On the infrastructure side, natural gas supply to fertiliser plants is operating at 98% capacity, ensuring uninterrupted production support for the agriculture sector. City gas distribution networks have also expanded significantly, with over 612,000 new piped natural gas (PNG) connections added in March alone. In total, around 679,000 new connections, including households and small users, have been recorded along with a steady shift of consumers from LPG cylinders to piped gas systems.

Officials confirmed that petrol and diesel prices remain unchanged, supported by adequate crude oil inventories and optimal refinery operations. Petrochemical production, including propylene and butyl acrylate, continues to supply key industries such as pharmaceuticals, paints, and chemicals. Regulatory inspections have also been intensified, resulting in thousands of notices and penalties issued to ensure compliance across oil marketing companies.

While global energy prices for crude oil and LPG have risen, the government reiterated that nearly 90% of retail consumers remain shielded from direct price impacts. However, it noted that commercial LPG cylinder prices in Delhi have seen an increase, even as domestic LPG rates remain stable. Authorities added that they are closely monitoring international developments and will continue to ensure uninterrupted energy supply while exploring alternative energy strategies such as green hydrogen and solar expansion.
