Goa Minister Visits Injured Activist After Brutal Assault Incident

Goa Minister meets beaten activist in hospital drama.

Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane made a personal visit to the hospital bed of renowned social activist Rama Kankonkar on Friday. The activist, who has been a vocal advocate for environmental causes, remains under medical care following a vicious assault that left the community reeling. Rane's meeting took place in the ward of the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), highlighting the government's attention to the high-profile case.

During the visit, Rane assured the public that Kankonkar is receiving top-tier medical attention. He revealed that GMCH has established a dedicated special committee to monitor and oversee the activist's treatment plan. This move comes as doctors continue to evaluate Kankonkar's recovery, emphasizing the severity of his injuries from the September 18 incident.

The assault on Kankonkar occurred in the Caranzalem area near Panaji, where he was reportedly ambushed by a group of assailants. Authorities acted swiftly, arresting seven individuals implicated in the attack, including notorious history-sheeter Zenito Cardoso. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with calls for stronger protection for activists challenging environmental threats in the region.
