Goa CM Slams Karnataka Over Mhadei Row, Cites ‘Modi Guarantee’
Sawant urges federalism, defends Mhadei, backs local farmers.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant hit out at the Karnataka government amid the ongoing Mhadei river dispute, urging them to embrace "cooperative federalism" instead of issuing threats.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, Sawant condemned alleged statements from Karnataka about halting vegetable supplies and tourism to Goa. “We never use such language. We are Indians first, Goans later,” he said, reaffirming a national spirit.
The two states remain locked in a bitter battle over the Mhadei river, with Goa accusing Karnataka of attempting to divert water through dam construction. Sawant declared his government would move the Supreme Court with a contempt petition against Karnataka’s actions.

He also used the opportunity to showcase Goa’s progress in agriculture, claiming a 30–40% reduction in horticulture imports and a 20% rise in exports. Highlighting success stories like young farmer Varad Samant, who supplies ₹50 lakh worth of vegetables annually, Sawant emphasized profit potential in farming.
The CM also proposed a 100% subsidy for community farming, stating that over 65,000 farmers are registered with the department and eligible for Krishi and Kissan credit cards. “If any bank denies loans, tell me—because your loan guarantee is PM Modi's guarantee,” he declared.
