Free Health Insurance Covers 10cr People in UP: Yogi Adityanath

Efforts are on to bolster healthcare infrastructure across Uttar Pradesh, he said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that 10 crore people in Uttar Pradesh are now benefiting from free health insurance under the combined efforts of the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat scheme and the Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana. The statement came during the ongoing Budget Session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council on Tuesday, highlighting the State Government's commitment to ensuring accessible healthcare for all.

Speaking during the question hour in the upper house, CM Adityanath emphasised that no poor person in the State faces hurdles in accessing medical treatment due to these schemes. "In Uttar Pradesh alone, we are providing health insurance coverage of ₹5 lakh per year to 10 crore people, and this is a testament to our sensitive and inclusive approach, ensuring benefits reach every resident without discrimination."

The Chief Minister credited the success of these initiatives to the "double engine" governance model of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), referring to the coordinated efforts of the central and state governments. He contrasted this with previous administrations, accusing the opposition Samajwadi Party of selective welfare distribution during its tenure. "Our government works for every citizen, not just a chosen few," he remarked.

Adityanath also outlined ongoing efforts to bolster healthcare infrastructure across Uttar Pradesh, including the recruitment of skilled medical faculty and the establishment of super-specialty blocks in medical colleges. "It is no longer difficult for the poor to receive treatment," he added, underscoring the transformative impact of these initiatives.

The announcement has been widely welcomed by residents and healthcare advocates, who see it as a significant step toward universal healthcare access in one of India’s most populous states. With 10 crore beneficiaries, roughly half the state’s population, this programme positions Uttar Pradesh as a leader in public health insurance coverage, aligning with the broader national goal of affordable healthcare for all.
