Four Dead in Tragic Samruddhi Expressway Crash in Washim

Accident on the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra’s Washim district

A devastating accident on the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra’s Washim district claimed the lives of four family members, including two women, on Thursday evening, police reported. The incident occurred around 8 pm between Wanoja and Karanja on the high-speed Mumbai-Nagpur corridor.

According to a Mangrulpir police station official, the family of five from Umred, Nagpur district, was returning from a function in Pune when their car veered out of control near channel number 215 and slammed into a divider. Madhuri Jaiswal and Vaidehi Jaiswal were killed instantly, while Sangeeta Jaiswal and Radheshyam Jaiswal succumbed to their injuries at a nearby hospital.

The driver, the sole survivor, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment in Washim. The Samruddhi Expressway, a 701-km route connecting Mumbai and Nagpur, has seen frequent accidents, with over 1,200 crashes and 135 deaths reported since December 2022, raising ongoing concerns about road safety.
