Former CBI chief begins political career as SSP national president.
Former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director M. Nageshwar Rao has entered active politics and taken charge as the National President of the Sarvajana Sanatan Party (SSP). Rao announced his new political role in Kashi, marking a new phase in his public life after nearly four decades of experience in security, law and order and administration. He said India's development should combine modernisation with the country's civilizational heritage.
Rao said the reconstruction of India cannot be restricted to administrative reforms and argued that development should remain connected to the country's historical and cultural foundations. According to the party's stated vision, Sanatan is not limited to a form of worship but represents values including truth, duty, compassion, justice, self-discipline, respect for nature, family, society and public welfare.
The Sarvajana Sanatan Party has outlined four major pillars for its political vision: education, health, livelihood and civilizational reconnection. Its education agenda focuses on combining Indian civilisation, history and knowledge traditions with modern and global-level learning. On healthcare, the party has proposed accessible and quality services drawing from modern medicine as well as Indian health traditions, while its livelihood focus includes opportunities for youth, farmers, artisans, labourers, small businesses and entrepreneurs.

The party has also positioned the preservation of India's cultural institutions as a central part of its vision. It has described languages, arts, temples, pilgrimage sites, festivals, knowledge traditions, families and cultural institutions as important elements of the country's civilizational strength. Rao said temples and pilgrimage centres should be preserved as living institutions rather than viewed only as places of worship, with emphasis on transparency, respect and wider social participation.
Rao also stressed that the party's interpretation of Sanatan is not intended to target any caste or community. He said the objective is to work for all sections of society rather than create divisions. The party has described its approach as an effort to build a technologically and economically modern India while maintaining a connection with its civilizational identity, summed up in its stated vision of a "Modern India, with its Sanatan civilizational roots."
Rao was joined at the announcement by Sarvajana Sanatan Party National Vice President Mahant Tirthanand, Vice President Ritu Rathod, General Secretary Raja Saksham Singh Yogi, spokesperson Babita Sharma, Uttar Pradesh In-charge Rakesh Tiwari and Organisation Minister Narnarayan Singh.
