Foreign Secretary Misri to Bolster India-Nepal Ties with Nepal Visit

Vikram Misri’s two-day trip to Nepal starting August 17, 2025, aims to pave the way for Nepalese PM K P Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit to India.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will embark on a two-day visit to Nepal starting Sunday, August 17, to lay the groundwork for Nepalese Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli’s anticipated trip to India around September 16, 2025. The visit, at the invitation of Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, underscores India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Nepal under its Neighbourhood First policy.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between India and Nepal, emphasizing the “Roti-Beti” relationship—a cultural bond reflecting shared traditions and familial ties. Nepal, a land-locked nation, depends heavily on India for trade, transportation, and access to the sea, importing a significant portion of its goods through Indian routes. The MEA noted that Misri’s visit continues the tradition of frequent high-level exchanges, fostering progress in diverse areas of cooperation.

Diplomatic sources indicate that Misri’s agenda in Kathmandu will focus on finalizing preparations for Oli’s visit to New Delhi, though an official announcement for the trip is still pending. The engagements are expected to cover ongoing Indian-funded projects and potential agreements to be signed during Oli’s visit, which may extend beyond the initially planned two days.
