Fog Advisory Issued by Cyberabad Police to Prevent Winter Road Accidents

Cyberabad Police warns of poor visibility due to winter fog, advising caution to prevent road accidents.

The Cyberabad Police on January 3, 2026, issued a detailed fog safety advisory urging all road users—motorists, two-wheeler riders, and pedestrians—to exercise extreme caution amid the dense fog conditions that have become common during the winter season in the region. Poor visibility caused by thick fog significantly increases the risk of accidents, particularly on high-traffic corridors, expressways, and arterial roads under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate. Officials highlighted that reduced sightlines can lead to delayed reactions, sudden braking, and collisions, especially during early mornings and late evenings when fog is densest.

The advisory includes several key recommendations to minimize risks. Drivers are advised to use low-beam headlights or fog lamps instead of high beams, which can reflect off the fog and further impair visibility. Motorists should maintain greater following distances—at least double the normal gap—and avoid sudden lane changes or overtaking. Two-wheeler riders are urged to wear bright or reflective clothing, use headlights at all times, and reduce speed considerably. Pedestrians are cautioned to use designated crossings, wear light-colored or reflective attire, and avoid walking on roadsides where visibility is poor. Police also recommended avoiding unnecessary travel during peak fog hours and using public transport whenever possible.

The Cyberabad Commissionerate emphasized that fog-related incidents have risen in recent winters, with several minor collisions and near misses reported in areas such as the Outer Ring Road (ORR), Gachibowli, Hi-Tech City, and Uppal. Authorities reminded citizens that speeding, distracted driving, or ignoring fog precautions can result in severe consequences, including fines under the Motor Vehicles Act for rash and negligent driving. The advisory comes as part of ongoing winter safety campaigns, with police teams deployed at vulnerable stretches to monitor traffic and assist stranded motorists.

Residents and commuters have welcomed the timely guidance, especially as dense fog continues to blanket parts of Hyderabad and surrounding districts. Police have encouraged the public to report any major visibility issues or accidents via the Cyberabad helpline (100 or 112) for prompt assistance. The advisory serves as a reminder of the importance of proactive measures during the winter months to ensure safer roads for all.
