FM to Launch Nationwide Campaign for Awareness on Unclaimed Assets
Three-month drive to guide citizens on tracing, updating, and claiming financial holdings.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will launch a three-month nationwide awareness campaign titled Apki Poonji, Apka Adhikar (Your Money, Your Right) on October 4 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, aimed at helping citizens reclaim unclaimed financial assets. Organised by the Department of Financial Services under the Finance Ministry, the campaign will run from October to December 2025 in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI), the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), and the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA).
Unclaimed financial assets, such as bank deposits, insurance claims, dividends, shares, and mutual fund proceeds, often remain dormant due to lack of awareness or outdated account information. The campaign seeks to address this by providing clear guidance and tools to help citizens locate and recover their funds. During the initiative, individuals will receive on-the-spot assistance to search for unclaimed assets, update records, and complete claim procedures. Digital platforms and step-by-step demonstrations will be available to simplify the process, ensuring transparency and accessibility.
The government emphasised its commitment to ensuring that every citizen or their legal heirs can claim their rightful savings. To support this, regulators have developed standard operating procedures (SOPs) and frequently asked questions (FAQs) to streamline the recovery process. The campaign also aims to boost financial inclusion by encouraging public participation and raising awareness about unclaimed assets across households nationwide.

These stalls will provide hands-on support and information to guide citizens. The initiative underscores the government’s efforts to empower individuals with the knowledge and resources needed to access their unclaimed financial assets efficiently.
