Flying Squad Inspects Vijay’s Vehicle Near Madurai Ahead Of Polls
Inspection reflects heightened poll surveillance before Tamil Nadu elections.
A flying squad of election officials inspected the vehicle of Vijay, chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), near Madurai on Friday as part of heightened surveillance ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
The inspection took place near the Madurai–Sivaganga border when officials signalled his convoy to stop at a designated checkpoint. Vijay was travelling by road to Sivaganga as part of his ongoing election campaign when the flying squad intervened for a routine check under the Model Code of Conduct.
Authorities said the vehicle was searched to ensure compliance with Election Commission guidelines, particularly regarding the transport of unaccounted cash, valuables, or any prohibited campaign material. Such checks have been intensified across Tamil Nadu in the run-up to polling, with surveillance teams deployed statewide to monitor violations.

Officials confirmed that Vijay cooperated fully during the inspection, and no incriminating items or unaccounted cash were found in the vehicle. After completing the verification process, the flying squad allowed the convoy to proceed without any further action.
The incident comes amid a broader tightening of election monitoring mechanisms across the state. Flying squads and surveillance teams have been actively conducting vehicle checks, seizing cash and valuables lacking proper documentation, and ensuring adherence to campaign regulations as polling day approaches.
Vijay, who launched his political party in 2024 and is contesting the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, has been actively campaigning across districts. As political activity intensifies, such routine inspections of candidates and their convoys are expected to continue as part of efforts to ensure a free and fair electoral process.
