Flood Victims Wait Four Hours On Roof Before Rescue In Tragic Incident

A flood-affected family in Maharashtra's Palghar district was forced to spend nearly four hours on the rooftop of their house while carrying the body of a deceased family member, after rising floodwaters entered their home. The incident took place in Devipada area on July 6, leaving the family caught between mourning their loss and fighting for survival during the flood situation.
The family was grieving the death of 55-year-old Anusya Manohar Leelaka when floodwaters began entering their house. As the water level rose rapidly, the family members were unable to remain inside the home and were forced to move to the tin roof of the structure for safety. They carried Anusya's body with them as there was no immediate way to conduct the funeral.
The situation left the family facing an extremely difficult circumstance, as they had to protect the remains of their loved one while also trying to save themselves from the rising water. The family remained stranded on the rooftop for several hours, waiting for help and for the floodwaters to reduce before they could return safely.

The funeral of Anusya Leelaka was conducted only after the water level receded and conditions became safer. The incident has drawn attention to the challenges faced by residents in flood-affected areas, where emergency access and basic services can become severely disrupted during heavy rainfall and flooding.
Residents of Devipada have expressed anger over the lack of assistance from the administration. They alleged that the affected family has not received adequate support or relief following the incident. Local concerns have raised questions about disaster preparedness and timely response mechanisms in flood-prone areas of the district.
