Flash Floods Derail Goods Train in J&K’s Kathua, Halts Jammu-Pathankot Route!

Heavy rains and a landslide triggered by flash floods derailed two bogies of a goods train in Kathua’s Lakhanpur

A goods train en route from Jammu to Punjab derailed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Thursday morning after heavy rainfall and a landslide dumped debris on the tracks near Lakhanpur. Two bogies went off the rails, halting train traffic on the critical Jammu-Pathankot route, according to railway officials. No casualties or injuries were reported.

Railway trackman Ram Bahadur told ANI, “Due to the rain, a landslide occurred, and debris fell onto the track, causing the derailment.” Railway teams are working swiftly to clear the debris and restore operations, with efforts expected to conclude by Thursday afternoon.

The incident follows a pattern of rain-related disruptions in the region, with flash floods also washing away the Lakhanpur-Jagatpur link road. Posts on X highlighted the urgency of the rescue operations, reflecting public concern over monsoon-driven infrastructure challenges.
