Fix It Before It’s Too Late: IIT Bombay Opens JAM 2026 Correction Window
IIT Bombay allows JAM 2026 applicants to correct form details via the JOAPS portal until November 10.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has launched a crucial correction window for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2026 applications, providing candidates a final opportunity to amend errors in their submitted forms before the process closes. Announced on November 2, 2025, the window allows modifications to key details such as category, name, date of birth, preferred exam city, and selected paper, with an "Add Paper" option now enabled for those seeking additional test subjects.
Accessible via the official JOAPS portal at joaps.iit.ac.in, this facility is available until November 10, 2025, exclusively for applicants who have completed registration and paid the fee. IIT Bombay, the organising institute for JAM 2026, emphasised that this is the last chance to rectify discrepancies, urging aspirants to log in promptly to avoid complications during the admission cycle.
JAM 2026, jointly conducted by IIT Bombay, IISc Bengaluru, and six premier IITs—including Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee—serves as the gateway for admission to over 3,000 seats in postgraduate programmes like M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., and other dual-degree courses across these institutions. The exam, scheduled for February 2026, covers seven subjects: biotechnology, chemistry, economics, geology, mathematics, mathematical statistics, and physics, attracting over 70,000 applicants annually from diverse science backgrounds.
Successful qualifiers gain access to subsidised education at these world-renowned centres, where research opportunities and placements often lead to careers in academia, industry, and R&D. This year's process builds on JAM's legacy since 2004, which has democratised entry into IITs beyond engineering streams, fostering interdisciplinary talent in a country where postgraduate STEM enrolment has surged 40% in the last decade.
To utilise the correction window, candidates must follow a straightforward online procedure to ensure accuracy and compliance. Begin by visiting jam2026.iitb.ac.in and clicking the application link on the homepage. Enter your registration ID and password to access the dashboard, then navigate to the modification section to update details as needed. If adding a paper or altering a category incurs an additional fee, upload supporting documents and process payment via the portal's secure gateway. Double-check all entries before submitting, as changes post-deadline will not be entertained. Finally, download and print the updated confirmation page for records, serving as proof of amendments. IIT Bombay advises verifying personal information against official documents to prevent discrepancies during verification stages.

The admit cards for JAM 2026 will be released for download in the first week of January 2026, followed by the computer-based test on February 9. Results, expected in late March, will determine eligibility for the counselling process through the centralised JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS). With application deadlines having closed in October, this correction phase addresses common pitfalls like typographical errors or overlooked preferences, ensuring fairness in a highly competitive exam where even minor inaccuracies can disqualify candidates. As IITs continue to expand capacity amid India's push for innovation hubs, JAM remains a pivotal platform for aspiring scientists, with toppers often securing fellowships worth up to Rs 12,400 monthly plus contingencies.
