Five Injured in AC Compressor Blast at Delhi Pizza Outlet

Minor injuries were reported after an air conditioner compressor exploded at the Yamuna Vihar outlet; the cause is under investigation.

Five people sustained minor injuries after an air conditioner compressor exploded at a popular pizza outlet in Yamuna Vihar, northeast Delhi, on Monday evening, officials from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said. The incident, which sparked panic in the busy commercial and residential hub, was reported at 8:55 pm.

According to officials, the blast occurred in a multi-storey building that houses a basement, ground floor, and two upper levels. The sudden explosion caused chaos among customers and passersby, prompting immediate emergency calls.

Within minutes, three fire tenders and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. The injured were swiftly evacuated and rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors confirmed that their injuries were minor, and all five were discharged after receiving first aid. Fortunately, the structure of the building itself sustained no major damage, allowing normalcy to return shortly after.

While the immediate crisis has been contained, authorities have launched a probe into the cause of the compressor blast. Investigators are examining whether overheating, excessive usage, or lapses in regular maintenance of the air conditioning unit may have triggered the incident—issues that are particularly common in urban environments during Delhi’s sweltering peak season.

The episode has once again raised concerns about fire and electrical safety in densely populated areas, where heavy demand for cooling appliances often pushes systems beyond capacity. Officials have urged residents and business owners to ensure timely servicing of appliances, proper ventilation, and adherence to safety protocols to prevent such accidents.

For locals in Yamuna Vihar, the incident was a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities in everyday infrastructure. While no lives were lost, the explosion underscored the importance of vigilance and preventive measures in crowded urban pockets.
