FIFA World Cup 2026 Kicks Off With Three Mega Opening Ceremonies Across Mexico, US, Canada
FIFA reveals three opening ceremonies featuring global music stars across Mexico, the US, and Canada.
FIFA has announced that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will feature three separate star-studded opening ceremonies across the tournament’s host nations — Mexico, United States, and Canada. The unprecedented format is designed to celebrate the cultural diversity and shared hosting responsibilities of the three countries staging football’s biggest event for the first time together.
The celebrations will begin in Mexico City ahead of the tournament opener between Mexico and South Africa on June 11 at the historic Azteca Stadium, which will temporarily be referred to as Mexico City Stadium during the competition. FIFA confirmed that the opening event will begin 90 minutes before kickoff and feature performances from several international and Latin American music stars, including J Balvin, Belinda, Lila Downs, Tyla, and legendary Mexican band Maná.
The second host celebration will take place in Toronto on June 12 before Canada’s opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina. FIFA said the Canadian ceremony will showcase performers representing different parts of the country and highlight its multicultural identity. Artists scheduled to perform include Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, and Nora Fatehi among others.

Later the same day, the United States will host its opening ceremony in Los Angeles before the American team’s match against Paraguay. FIFA confirmed that global pop star Katy Perry will headline the show alongside performers including Future, Lisa of Blackpink, Anitta, and Rema. Organisers said additional artists are expected to be announced in the coming weeks as preparations for the tournament intensify.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino described the ceremonies as a celebration of football, music, and cultural unity across borders and time zones. According to FIFA, each host nation’s event will maintain its own identity while remaining connected through a common theme representing global togetherness. Organisers also said fans attending the ceremonies will play an active role in the festivities and were encouraged to arrive early for the full experience.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the largest edition in the tournament’s history, featuring an expanded format and matches spread across multiple cities in North America over nearly six weeks. FIFA believes the trio of opening ceremonies will help reflect the scale and diversity of the event while creating a festival atmosphere that combines sport, entertainment, and culture. With a lineup featuring internationally recognised performers from several continents, the tournament is already generating significant anticipation among football and music fans worldwide.
