Fierce Shootout in West Bengal! One injured in Clash Near Ex-BJP MP’s Residence in Bhatpara
Shootout Near Ex-BJP MP’s Residence in Bhatpara Leaves One Injured Amid Political Tensions
A fierce shootout rocked Bhatpara late Wednesday night, March 26, 2025, near the home of former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Arjun Singh, injuring one youth and reigniting political strife in the volatile North 24 Parganas district.
The attack, which unfolded around 10:30 PM, involved unidentified assailants hurling bombs and firing multiple rounds just outside Singh’s residence, sending shockwaves through the community.
Police reported that a young man was wounded in the gunfire and promptly hospitalized. Singh, a polarizing figure who has oscillated between the BJP and Trinamool Congress (TMC), blamed the assault on Namit Singh, son of TMC councillor Sunita Singh. “They fired five to seven rounds in front of police,” he alleged, claiming he and his aides repelled the attackers after a brief chase.
The clash reportedly erupted from a dispute at the nearby Meghna Jute Mill, where rival worker factions clashed earlier that day.
TMC MLA Somnath Shyam refuted Singh’s accusations, alleging instead that the ex-MP orchestrated the violence and injured the youth himself. The incident has deepened the area’s long-standing political divide, prompting a swift response from authorities. A heavy contingent of police, backed by Rapid Action Force units, descended on Bhatpara to quell unrest, while Barrackpore Police Commissioner Ajay Thakur promised a thorough probe and stern action against those responsible.
As the investigation unfolds, residents remain on edge, wary of further violence in this politically charged enclave.
