Father Says Doctor Traumatised After Alleged Attack By Sena Corporator
Family describes doctor’s condition after alleged assault.
The family of a doctor allegedly assaulted by a Shiv Sena corporator at a Thane hospital has said the incident has left the young medical professionals deeply traumatised. Dr Srishti Baviskar and her colleague Dr Vaibhav Salunkhe are reportedly struggling with fear and anxiety following the assault at a hospital operated by the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC).
Dr Srishti’s father, Mahendra Baviskar, told reporters that both doctors remain in a state of shock after the incident. He said the psychological impact has been severe, with the doctors waking up in fear during sleep and repeatedly feeling as though they are under attack. The family has highlighted the need for stronger protection measures for healthcare workers.
The alleged assault took place on Monday at Shastri Nagar Hospital in Kalyan. A video of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre allegedly assaulting Dr Salunkhe. According to reports, when Dr Srishti intervened to protect her colleague, she was allegedly hit on her hand and her mobile phone was thrown away.

Mahendra Baviskar also clarified that reports suggesting the two doctors had resigned after the incident were incorrect. While KDMC medical health officer Dr Deepa Shukla had earlier stated that the doctors had submitted resignations to the private agency that appointed them, Dr Srishti’s father said neither doctor had quit their position following the attack.
The doctors’ families have appealed to authorities to ensure the safety of medical professionals working in hospitals. Dr Srishti’s parents said healthcare workers can provide better treatment only when they feel secure at their workplaces. They urged the government to introduce strict security measures across KDMC facilities and ensure accountability in cases of violence against medical staff.
Mhatre and three associates were arrested on Wednesday night following public outrage over the incident. The corporator was later taken to Thane District Civil Hospital after complaining of chest pain and was discharged after doctors found him medically stable. A court has sent him to custody until July 13, while healthcare workers at the hospital have protested and demanded strict action against him. The case has also drawn support from political leaders, including Aaditya Thackeray and Rohit Pawar.
