Farmers Demand Immediate Action on Kadambur Power Sub-Station Delay

Farmers in the Kadambur hill region have urged the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (TNPDCL) to speed up the construction of a power sub-station, citing prolonged electricity shortages and delays in completing the project. The demand was raised at a farmers’ meeting held in Kadambur on Wednesday, September 9, where inadequate power supply and the pending sub-station were among the major concerns discussed.

The meeting was organised by the Erode North district unit of the Tamilaga Farmers’ Protection Association. Farmers said the delay in establishing the sub-station was affecting electricity availability in the hill region and called on the power distribution authorities to take steps to complete the work at the earliest. They sought timely intervention to address the difficulties caused by inadequate power infrastructure.

The participants also raised concerns over crop damage caused by wild animals in the region. Farmers discussed the need for proper measures to protect agricultural fields and sought attention to the maintenance of protective trenches intended to prevent wild animals from entering farmland. The issue of recurring crop losses was highlighted as a major concern for cultivators.

Compensation for crop damage was another issue discussed during the meeting. Farmers sought appropriate compensation for losses caused by wild animals and called for measures to make the process of obtaining relief more effective. They said timely assistance would help affected cultivators manage the financial impact of damage to their crops.

The meeting also addressed difficulties faced by farmers in obtaining loans from cooperative banks. Participants discussed the challenges involved in accessing credit and sought steps to make agricultural lending more accessible to cultivators. Easy availability of institutional credit remains important for farmers who depend on loans to meet cultivation and other agricultural expenses.

The farmers reiterated their demand for the authorities to act on the issues raised at the meeting, particularly the delay in completing the power sub-station. Along with improved electricity infrastructure, they sought stronger protection against wild animals, proper maintenance of protective trenches, timely compensation for crop losses and easier access to cooperative bank loans.
