Fake Mounjaro Injection Racket Busted In Gurugram, Two Arrested Amid Nationwide Alert
Gurugram fake Mounjaro injection racket busted; two arrested amid nationwide alert over counterfeit diabetes drug network.
Authorities in Gurugram have busted a racket involved in the manufacture and sale of counterfeit Mounjaro injections, arresting two individuals and launching a nationwide alert to track the distribution of the fake drugs. Officials said investigations are ongoing to uncover the full network behind the illegal operation and identify all those involved.
According to Drug Control Officer Amandeep Chauhan, a Health Department team conducted a raid at a residential society in Sector 62 following intelligence inputs about the suspected counterfeit drug operation. During the raid, officials arrested two people, including the alleged mastermind of the racket. The accused were reportedly sourcing raw pharmaceutical materials from China and using them to manufacture fake injections inside a residential flat.
Officials said the counterfeit Mounjaro injections were being produced in unhygienic conditions, where raw drugs were mixed with water before being packaged. The operation also involved labelling, barcoding, and sealing the products on-site using packaging equipment recovered during the raid. The finished products were then allegedly sold through business-to-business platforms such as IndiaMART, allowing them to reach unsuspecting buyers.

The investigation gained momentum after authorities seized counterfeit injections worth approximately ₹70 lakh from a vehicle in DLF Phase 4 on Saturday. This led to the follow-up raid at the Sector 62 apartment on Monday, where further evidence of manufacturing activity was found. Police arrested Mujjammil, a delivery agent from Uttar Pradesh, and later apprehended Avi Sharma, a Gurugram resident identified as the alleged kingpin of the operation.
Mounjaro is a prescription injection used in the treatment of Type 2 diabetes and is also known for its role in weight management. Officials warned that counterfeit versions of such medicines can pose severe health risks due to unknown composition and unsafe manufacturing practices. Experts said the rising demand for such drugs has made them a target for illegal production networks.
Authorities have circulated batch numbers of suspected fake injections across the country and issued a nationwide alert to state drug control departments. Officials said the probe is continuing to trace supply chains, identify distribution networks, and determine the scale of the racket. Further arrests are expected as the investigation expands.
