Ex-Army Jawan Jailed for Brutal Labourer Attack

Retired soldier sentenced for violent assault in Ballia.

In a shocking case from Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, a retired Army jawan, Jeevit Prasad, was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday, September 15, 2025, for viciously attacking two labourers with a rod. The incident, which took place on October 28, 2020, in a village under the Bansdih police station area, stemmed from a seemingly trivial dispute but escalated into a violent assault that left the victims injured.

According to the prosecution, the altercation began when Kaushal and his nephew Bechan, who were working in the village, accidentally splashed cement on Prasad. Enraged by the incident, Prasad attacked the duo with a metal rod, causing serious injuries. Kaushal promptly filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against the former soldier.

The case was heard in the district and sessions court, where Superintendent of Police Omvir Singh confirmed that the court found Prasad guilty. In addition to the five-year jail term, the court imposed a hefty fine of Rs 1.11 lakh on Prasad, underscoring the severity of his actions. The sentencing has sent a strong message about accountability, regardless of one’s background or past service.

The incident has sparked discussions in the local community about the misuse of authority and the need for stricter measures to prevent such violent outbursts. While Prasad’s military background might have once commanded respect, his actions have now cast a shadow over his reputation, leaving the victims and their families seeking justice for the trauma they endured.

This case highlights the importance of maintaining composure and resolving disputes peacefully, especially in close-knit rural communities where minor incidents can escalate quickly. As Ballia reflects on this troubling event, the court’s decision serves as a reminder that no one is above the law, and justice will be served for acts of violence against innocent individuals.
