“Every Govt Must Prioritize Brahmins” Delhi CM’s Remarks Draw Criticism
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta praises Brahmins, igniting caste controversy.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta hailed the Brahmin community as the torchbearers of knowledge during the All India Brahmin Conference organized by Shri Brahmin Sabha in Delhi’s Pitampura on October 5, 2025. Her remarks, emphasizing the community’s role in shaping society through intellect and tradition, have sparked heated discussions across political and social circles.
Speaking passionately to a large gathering, Gupta declared, “The Brahmin community ignites the flame of knowledge in our society. They revere both scriptures and weapons, a unique balance that ensures the protection and progress of our nation. Their contributions to education, religion, and societal harmony are unparalleled.” She further urged that every government, regardless of its political affiliation, must prioritize the welfare of Brahmins to harness their potential for national development.
Gupta’s comments come at a time when caste-based discourse remains a sensitive topic in India. Her call for focused welfare initiatives for the Brahmin community has drawn sharp attention, with critics arguing it risks deepening societal divides, while supporters view it as an acknowledgment of the community’s historical contributions. “The Brahmins have always fostered goodwill and worked selflessly for society’s benefit. Any government serious about progress must empower them,” she reiterated.

The Chief Minister also took a swipe at previous Delhi administrations, accusing them of neglecting the city’s growth. “For 27 years, Delhi has lagged behind while neighboring states have surged ahead. It’s time to shift gears and accelerate development. We need your suggestions to make Delhi a Viksit Delhi—a developed, inclusive capital,” she said, addressing the conference attendees.
Gupta emphasized her government’s commitment to fostering unity and providing equal opportunities to all communities. “A united society is the foundation of true progress. Every community’s contribution must be honored, and we are working tirelessly to ensure this,” she added. She outlined plans to engage with community leaders to address long-standing issues and create a roadmap for inclusive development in the capital.
The conference, attended by scholars, religious leaders, and community representatives, also featured discussions on preserving Brahmin traditions, promoting education, and addressing socio-economic challenges faced by the community. Gupta’s administration has promised to incorporate feedback from such platforms to shape its policies.
However, the Chief Minister’s remarks have not gone without criticism. Opposition leaders have accused her of pandering to a specific caste group, arguing that such statements could undermine social harmony. “Governance should focus on uplifting all communities, not singling out one for praise,” said a spokesperson from a rival party. Meanwhile, supporters of Gupta argue that recognizing the contributions of Brahmins does not diminish the value of other communities but rather highlights their unique role in India’s cultural and intellectual fabric.
As Delhi gears up for further political battles, Gupta’s comments are likely to fuel debates on caste, governance, and inclusivity. Her vision for a Viksit Delhi hinges on collaboration, but whether her remarks will unite or divide remains to be seen.
