EC Breaks Silence: Sunday Press Conference Amid Vote Theft Allegations
EC to address vote theft claims and Bihar voter list issues in Sunday press conference.
The Election Commission (EC) has announced a press conference scheduled for Sunday, responding to escalating allegations of “vote theft” made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and mounting protests by opposition parties over the intensive electoral roll revision in Bihar.
It is uncommon for the EC to hold formal press briefings outside of election schedule announcements, underscoring the gravity of the current situation. While the specific agenda of the conference remains undisclosed, officials confirmed it will address the serious accusations leveled against the commission.
Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly accused the EC of manipulating voter data, alleging “vote theft” in Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Haryana. In response, the commission has demanded that Gandhi provide the names of individuals he claims have been improperly added or removed from the voter list, accompanied by a signed declaration. Furthermore, the EC has requested a public apology should Gandhi fail to substantiate his claims.

The EC’s decision to conduct a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s voters’ list has also drawn criticism from opposition parties, who argue the process risks disenfranchising millions of eligible voters lacking proper documentation.
Adding to the scrutiny, the Supreme Court has directed the EC to disclose details of the 6.5 million names removed from the voters' list, including reasons for their exclusion, to ensure transparency in the Bihar revision process.
