Elderly Man Dies Nine Injured in Bee Attack at Odisha Village
76-year-old man dies and nine others injured after bee swarm attack in Odisha's Kendrapara district.
A 76-year-old man died and nine others were injured on Friday afternoon when a swarm of bees attacked residents in Jaguleipada village under the Rajkanika Police Station limits, police said. The incident caused panic among villagers as the bees descended unexpectedly on a group of people in the area.
The deceased, identified as Bailochan Biswal, was rushed to Kendrapara district headquarters hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The nine other victims sustained minor stings and were discharged after receiving medical care, according to police officials.
Authorities discovered a two-foot-long beehive on a tree located on the premises of the village school, which is believed to have provoked the attack. The hive has since been removed by local forest department personnel to prevent further incidents.

Police and local administration officials have appealed to villagers to exercise caution in areas where wild bees are known to nest. They advised residents to avoid disturbing hives and to alert authorities immediately if large swarms are spotted near populated areas.
The incident has raised concerns about safety measures in rural regions, especially during the flowering season when bee activity increases. Local authorities are reportedly exploring long-term preventive strategies, including awareness campaigns and hive relocation programs.
