Eknath Shinde Hospitalised In Mumbai: Viral Fever Affects Maharashtra Deputy CM
Shinde admitted to Mumbai hospital with viral fever today.
Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister and chief of the Shiv Sena, has been admitted to a hospital after developing viral fever, prompting doctors to advise him to take complete rest. According to officials, Shinde was admitted on Friday to Jupiter Hospital after experiencing symptoms of fever and cold over the past few days. His condition is reported to be stable, and he is expected to be discharged later on Saturday if his recovery continues as anticipated.
Officials said Shinde sought medical attention after suffering from viral fever and persistent cold symptoms. Following a medical examination, doctors recommended hospitalisation for observation and treatment. They have also advised the Deputy Chief Minister to avoid strenuous activities and take adequate rest before returning to his official responsibilities. While his illness is not believed to be serious, his doctors are closely monitoring his condition to ensure a full recovery.
The hospitalisation has temporarily interrupted Shinde's busy political schedule. As one of Maharashtra's two Deputy Chief Ministers and the leader of the Shiv Sena faction that is part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance, Shinde regularly attends government meetings, administrative reviews and party events across the state. Officials indicated that his immediate engagements have been postponed in accordance with medical advice, allowing him to focus on recovering from the viral infection.

Shinde has remained an influential figure in Maharashtra politics since leading the Shiv Sena rebellion in 2022, which resulted in the collapse of the then Maha Vikas Aghadi government. He subsequently became Chief Minister of Maharashtra and served in the role until the formation of the current government, in which he assumed the position of Deputy Chief Minister. Alongside his government responsibilities, he continues to head the Shiv Sena faction recognised after the split in the party and plays a key role in the state's political and organisational affairs.
News of his hospitalisation prompted messages wishing him a speedy recovery from political leaders, party workers and supporters. Officials have reassured the public that there is no cause for concern, stating that the Deputy Chief Minister's condition remains stable and that he is responding well to treatment. According to those familiar with his health status, the viral fever has been brought under control, and doctors expect him to recover fully after a brief period of rest and medication.
Viral fever cases often increase during the monsoon season due to changing weather conditions and the spread of seasonal infections. Medical experts generally advise patients to remain hydrated, take prescribed medication and avoid excessive physical exertion until symptoms subside. Shinde's doctors have reportedly recommended similar precautions, emphasising that adequate rest is essential for a complete recovery before resuming a demanding public schedule.
If his health continues to improve as expected, Shinde is likely to be discharged later on Saturday. Officials said he will continue recuperating under medical supervision after leaving the hospital and will resume official duties only after receiving clearance from his doctors. The Maharashtra government has not indicated any disruption to administrative functioning during his brief absence, with ministers and senior officials continuing to oversee government business while the Deputy Chief Minister recovers.
