Eight Injured as Crane Falls on Houses During Kurla Eviction Drive

Eight people were injured after a crane toppled onto nearby houses in Kurla East during preparations for an eviction and demolition operation early Friday morning. The incident took place at around 3 am at Buntara Bhavan, a MHADA building located behind Galaxy Apartment in the Indira Nagar area. According to civic officials, the crane was being mounted and positioned for the planned operation when it suddenly toppled, falling towards nearby houses and causing injuries to people in the vicinity. The accident triggered an emergency response involving several civic and security agencies.

Officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's L-ward were present at the site when the incident occurred. The civic staff said the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority was preparing to carry out an eviction and demolition operation at the location. As part of the preparations, a crane had been brought in and was being set up for the operation. However, the equipment lost balance and fell onto adjoining houses, resulting in injuries to eight people. Following the accident, six injured people were taken to the civic-run Sion Hospital for treatment, while two others were shifted to Bhabha Hospital in Kurla. Hospital authorities said all eight injured persons were in stable condition. No deaths were reported in the incident. Emergency teams were quickly mobilised to the location, with personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, police, the 108 ambulance service and local civic ward authorities participating in the rescue and relief efforts. Officials worked to secure the affected area and assist people who had been caught up in the accident.

The crane accident also affected railway operations in the area. Officials said goods movement on the single-line Kurla-Trombay route of the Central Railway was disrupted after a portion of the crane fell onto overhead electrical wires. Railway and civic personnel were required to assess the affected infrastructure while rescue operations continued. The disruption highlighted the wider impact of the accident, which occurred in an area where residential structures and railway infrastructure are located close to the site of the planned operation.
