ED Questions Former West Bengal Minister Sujit Bose In Municipal Recruitment Case In Kolkata
Former West Bengal minister Sujit Bose appears before ED in municipal recruitment corruption probe in Kolkata.
Former West Bengal Minister Sujit Bose appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday in connection with the ongoing municipal recruitment corruption investigation. He reached the ED office at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake, Kolkata around 10:30 a.m., accompanied by his son Samudra Bose, who has also been summoned in the same case. Officials confirmed that both were called for questioning as part of a wider probe into alleged irregularities in municipal job appointments.
The case relates to allegations of corruption in municipal recruitment processes in West Bengal, where investigators are examining claims of illegal appointments and financial irregularities. The ED has been probing multiple individuals linked to the case, including political figures and their family members. According to officials, Sujit Bose’s appearance was part of a continued line of questioning aimed at gathering further evidence in the ongoing investigation.
This is not the first time Sujit Bose has been summoned in the case. Earlier, he had approached the Calcutta High Court seeking exemption or deferment from appearing before the agency during election-related duties. At that time, he cited campaign commitments and received relief allowing him temporary exemption from appearing before investigators. He later appeared before the ED after the election process concluded.

On May 1, Bose had earlier visited the ED office and cooperated with questioning for several hours, accompanied by his legal counsel. During that appearance, he reportedly submitted court-related documents and maintained that he was complying with legal procedures. The ED has also previously summoned his wife, son, and daughter as part of the broader investigation into alleged recruitment irregularities.
Prior to his Monday appearance, ED officials had conducted searches at multiple locations linked to Bose, including his residence, office premises, and a restaurant owned by his son near VIP Road in Kolkata. These raids were part of the agency’s effort to trace financial transactions and gather documentation connected to the alleged scam. The central agency has been conducting these operations with security support from central forces.
Bose had earlier alleged that the investigation was politically motivated and described it as a “conspiracy” during the election period. However, on Monday he did not make any public statement before entering the ED office. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are expected to continue questioning key individuals as part of the case.
