Lakshmanan Meyyappan: Guinness Record Holder At Just 16 Years Old

Teen sets Guinness record as world's youngest Chartered Accountant.

Lakshmanan Meyyappan has been recognised by Guinness World Records as the world’s youngest male Chartered Accountant after achieving the milestone at the age of 16 years and 141 days in Dubai. At an age when most teenagers are still considering their educational and career options, Meyyappan had already completed a professional accounting qualification. His achievement has drawn attention to his unusually early entry into the fields of accounting, finance and investment.

Meyyappan’s interest in accounting developed during the Covid-19 pandemic after he completed his Class 10 board examinations. According to an earlier profile by PwC Academy, his mother, who is also an ACCA-qualified professional, introduced him to basic accounting concepts during the lockdown. Meyyappan subsequently decided to pursue the ACCA qualification himself. He began studying for the professional qualification at the age of 15 and completed it in approximately a year.

Completing the ACCA qualification was only the beginning of Meyyappan’s academic journey. He later earned the CFA charter and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Finance. Alongside his studies, he has entered the professional world and works as a Senior Research Analyst at Century Financial in Dubai. His responsibilities include investment research, financial analysis and supporting decision-making related to financial markets, giving him professional exposure while continuing his higher education.

Meyyappan has said that he did not view professional qualifications as a race, despite completing them at an exceptionally young age. Speaking about his Guinness World Records recognition, he said the milestone was meaningful but that his primary focus had been understanding how finance works in the real world and developing skills that remain relevant over time. He emphasised that curiosity and genuine interest in learning were more important to him than simply completing qualifications quickly.

His interests also extend beyond accounting and finance. During his free time, Meyyappan is interested in designing and building watches, providing a creative pursuit alongside his academic and professional activities. His journey represents an unconventional path into the finance industry, beginning with accounting studies shortly after school and progressing through professional qualifications, higher education and employment in financial research.

Meyyappan’s achievement offers an unusual example of how students can explore professional qualifications at an early stage of their education. His progression from Class 10 to ACCA, the CFA charter, postgraduate finance studies and professional employment demonstrates a sustained focus on the financial sector. While his record highlights exceptional academic achievement, his own comments suggest that his emphasis remains on acquiring practical knowledge and developing long-term expertise rather than simply completing qualifications at a young age.
