DTCP Seals, Demolishes Illegal Constructions in 11 Gurugram Buildings

The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) enforcement wing has taken action against 11 buildings in Sushant Lok 1 and South City 1 over alleged violations involving illegal construction and unauthorised commercial activities. Officials said two teams carried out the enforcement operation simultaneously, issuing notices to the owners of six buildings in Sushant Lok 1 and five in South City 1. The action focused mainly on unauthorised structures created in stilt parking areas and the use of residential properties for commercial purposes.

In Sushant Lok 1, officials sealed a four-storey building where commercial establishments, including a clothing boutique and a healthcare centre, were operating on different floors. The enforcement team also demolished additional unauthorised structures in the building’s stilt area. In another property, four rooms constructed in the stilt area were demolished, while similar illegal constructions were removed from another building. District Town Planner (Enforcement) Amit Madholia said most of the violations identified during the operation involved the conversion of stilt parking spaces into rooms.

Madholia said the demolitions were carried out after notices had been served on the concerned property owners. Some residents opposed the enforcement action, arguing that authorities should have prevented the violations when the unauthorised construction initially took place. During the operation, officials also removed an illegal gate and demolished an unauthorised guard room in Sushant Lok 1. Encroachments involving the right of way and green belts were also cleared as part of the drive, according to the department.

A separate enforcement operation was conducted in South City 1 under the supervision of assistant town planner Divya Dahiya. Officials sealed all floors and the basement of a house in B Block after finding violations. In another property, a real estate office was found operating from a residential building, prompting action by the department. A further house was sealed after officials found commercial activities being conducted across its floors, the DTCP said.

The enforcement drive forms part of a wider survey of private licensed colonies across Gurugram. Madholia said the department has surveyed more than 90% of such colonies and will issue notices wherever violations are identified. He said a large number of residential properties have illegal rooms constructed in stilt areas and warned that such structures would be demolished. The department also appealed to property owners to stop unauthorised commercial activities to avoid sealing action.

The ongoing action follows directions issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on May 29 calling for action against violations and encroachments in residential colonies. Officials also said the Supreme Court has recently directed authorities to act against building violations and encroachments in Gurugram. The DTCP’s latest operation indicates that enforcement measures are continuing across private licensed colonies, with authorities focusing on unauthorised construction, encroachment and commercial use of residential properties.
