DRG Constable Killed in Accidental Firing During Anti-Naxal Operation in Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh constable killed in accidental gunfire incident.

A District Reserve Guard constable tragically lost his life due to an accidental discharge of a firearm in the conflict-prone Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh on December 21, 2025, underscoring the inherent dangers and unforeseen hazards encountered by security forces engaged in anti-Naxal operations in remote and hostile terrains.

The unfortunate incident unfolded at the Kadenar forward operating camp during the morning hours of Sunday, immediately following the return of a security team from an intensive area domination exercise deep within the dense forests falling under the jurisdiction of Chhotedongar police station, a region long plagued by left-wing extremism.

The anti-Naxal operation had been launched on the previous day, Saturday, with personnel conducting thorough patrolling and search activities; upon their safe return to the camp in the early hours, the team commenced routine procedures, including boarding a vehicle for further movement or debriefing, when the accidental firing occurred without warning.

The stray bullet struck Constable Baldev Singh Hurra, a 33-year-old dedicated member of the force, in the vicinity of the head, causing severe and critical injuries accompanied by profuse bleeding that rapidly deteriorated his condition despite prompt efforts by colleagues to provide first aid and evacuate him.

Constable Hurra was swiftly transported to the nearest medical facility at Dhaudai hospital, where attending doctors administered emergency treatment; however, the extent of the trauma proved fatal, and he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter, leaving behind a void in the ranks of the District Reserve Guard.

Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the precise circumstances surrounding the accidental discharge, including whether the weapon belonged to the deceased constable or a fellow team member, while the body has undergone post-mortem examination at a designated facility to gather additional forensic insights and complete necessary procedural requirements.
