“Dreams Destroyed”: Family Grieves Loss of Hardworking Rohit in Delhi Crash
Family grieves 23-year-old Rohit, killed when a speeding Mercedes hit three mall staff in Delhi.
A 23-year-old chef, Rohit, was killed, and two of his colleagues were injured when a speeding Mercedes struck them outside Ambience Mall in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj late Sunday night. The three employees of the French bakery-café Paul had just finished their shift and were waiting for transport home when the luxury car, driven by software engineer Shivam Arora, hit them at high speed. Rohit died on the spot, while the two injured co-workers were rushed to the hospital.
The driver, Shivam Arora, who had been returning from his own wedding reception with his wife and brother, was immediately detained by Delhi Police. Medical tests confirmed he was not under the influence of alcohol. He has been booked under sections 106 (causing death by negligence), 125 (endangering life), and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Rohit, a native of Chamoli in Uttarakhand, was the sole breadwinner for his family. His uncle Balwant Singh told HT that the young chef had spoken to relatives only last week and promised to take leave soon to visit home. “His mother is in deep shock. He was very hardworking. We never imagined this would happen,” Singh said, adding that the family is travelling to Delhi to claim his body and demanding the strictest punishment for the driver.

The tragedy has once again highlighted concerns over road safety in the national capital, particularly rash driving by owners of high-end vehicles in busy commercial areas. Police are examining CCTV footage and have seized the Mercedes as the investigation continues into the exact circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
