DRDO Scientist Found Dead in Locked Bathroom Just 48 Hours After Wedding

Newlywed joint director dies mysteriously two days after wedding.

Aditya Verma, a joint director at the Defence Research and Development Organisation, was found unconscious in the locked bathroom of his Alwar residence on Wednesday morning, barely 48 hours after his wedding on November 25. The 30-something scientist, recently transferred to DRDO’s food research laboratory in Mysuru, had returned to his parental home in Rajasthan with his bride for post-wedding rituals when the tragedy occurred.

Family members grew anxious when Verma did not emerge from the toilet after entering around 5:30 am. By 6 am his mother alerted the household, and they forced open the locked door to discover him collapsed and unresponsive. He was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, sending shockwaves through both the family and the scientific community.

Police at Shivaji Park station confirmed the bathroom was locked from the inside and no suicide note was recovered. A postmortem was conducted the same day at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital, Alwar, and viscera samples have been preserved and dispatched to the Forensic Science Laboratory to ascertain the exact cause of death. The family has not levelled allegations against anyone, and the case is being treated as sudden unnatural death pending chemical analysis.

Verma had married the daughter of a police officer in a ceremony attended by relatives and colleagues. The bride had arrived at the groom’s home only on November 26. Authorities are awaiting the FSL report, expected in the coming weeks, while the sudden loss has raised concerns within DRDO circles, especially following the death of another young scientist, Akashdeep Gupta, in Lucknow last month under reportedly natural circumstances.

The incident has cast a pall over what was meant to be a joyous beginning for the newlyweds, with investigators emphasising that no conclusive determination about the cause can be made until laboratory results are received.
