Dr Anjali Nimbalkar Saves US Passenger's Life With CPR on IndiGo Flight

Former MLA Dr Anjali Nimbalkar performs CPR to revive collapsing US passenger on IndiGo flight.

A dramatic mid-air medical emergency unfolded on December 13 aboard an IndiGo flight from Goa to Delhi when an American passenger collapsed minutes after take-off. The woman, identified as Jenny from California, experienced severe tremors, dangerously low blood pressure, and convulsions before losing consciousness. Panic spread among fellow passengers as her condition deteriorated rapidly.

Travelling on the same flight was former Khanapur MLA and Congress leader Dr Anjali Nimbalkar, who immediately stepped in to provide medical assistance. Drawing on her medical background, Dr Anjali performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and emergency measures to stabilize Jenny. Her timely intervention revived the passenger, who briefly regained stability before symptoms returned later in the flight.

Dr Anjali remained by Jenny’s side throughout the journey, closely monitoring her condition and continuing emergency care. As the aircraft prepared to land in Delhi, she coordinated with the cabin crew to ensure medical support was ready upon arrival. An ambulance was stationed on the runway, and Jenny was rushed to a hospital for further treatment immediately after landing.

The incident drew praise from Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who commended Dr Anjali’s service mindset and quick response. He noted that her sense of timing and dedication in rushing to help a patient in need were highly commendable.

Dr Anjali Nimbalkar, a medical professional and senior Congress leader, served as MLA from Khanapur in Belagavi district between 2018 and 2023. Holding an MBBS degree and an MS in Gynaecology, she contested the Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 general elections. Her actions during the flight have now earned her recognition beyond politics, showcasing her commitment to saving lives.
