Digvijaya Singh-Led Committee Intensifies Scrutiny Of NTA And NEET Paper Leak Case
Parliament panel examines NTA reforms and NEET-UG leak probe, reviewing education system accountability measures.
A parliamentary standing committee led by Congress leader Digvijaya Singh is set to review reforms in the National Testing Agency (NTA) and examine the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case, as concerns over examination integrity and regulatory oversight continue to draw national attention. The committee will meet on May 21 and has summoned senior officials from the Ministry of Education and the NTA for detailed deliberations.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports will take up the implementation status of the K. Radhakrishnan Committee report on NTA reforms. It will also seek an update on investigations into alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examination, which is a key gateway test for medical admissions across India.
The NEET-UG examination, conducted by the NTA, had earlier been cancelled following allegations of malpractice, affecting nearly 23 lakh candidates who had registered for the test. According to official statements, concerns regarding irregularities were flagged days after the exam was conducted, prompting administrative scrutiny and the announcement of a re-examination scheduled for June 21. The government has also indicated that the exam will transition to a computer-based format from next year.

The committee has called top officials, including the Secretary of the Department of Higher Education and the NTA Chairperson, for discussions. Alongside examination reforms, the panel will also examine broader issues such as the impact of artificial intelligence on education, student employability, and institutional reforms across higher education bodies.
In addition, the committee will engage with representatives from academic and industry organisations, including IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, Infosys, Anthropic India, and Pratham, to gather perspectives on education technology and workforce readiness. Separate discussions are also planned with the leadership of Aligarh Muslim University and the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions on governance, reservations, and implementation of the National Education Policy.
