DIG Flags Security Gaps at Jharkhand’s Palamu Central Jail

DIG warns of gang clash risk in jail

Security loopholes at Palamu Central Jail, where several notorious gangsters are currently lodged, have drawn strong criticism from DIG (Palamu zone) Naushad Alam. After a surprise inspection ahead of Independence Day, the senior officer expressed dissatisfaction and called for urgent corrective measures.

In his letter to the Palamu Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, Alam highlighted discrepancies in basic security and internal arrangements, despite the jail housing dreaded criminals like Dinesh Gope, Sujit Sinha, Hari Tiwari, Dabloo Singh and Ballu Pandey.

The DIG warned of possible gang clashes and recommended key upgrades, including:

  • Replacing outdated 2G jammers with 5G jammers to block mobile signals.

  • Installing high-resolution CCTV cameras covering blind spots across the jail premises.

  • Erecting view-cutters to block direct visibility from a nearby flyover.

  • Strict monitoring of doctors deputed for inmate healthcare.

  • Regular frisking of staff and visitors to curb the entry of phones and drugs.

  • Transferring arch-rivals Sujit Sinha and Dabloo Singh to separate facilities to avoid confrontations.

The officer stressed that Palamu Central Jail’s current setup is inadequate to handle hardened criminals and must be overhauled immediately to prevent any major incident.
