Dharmendra Pradhan's Post With Sonam Wangchuk And Wife Resurfaces Online

An old social media post by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan praising climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk and his wife Gitanjali Angmo has gained renewed attention amid Wangchuk’s ongoing hunger strike demanding the minister’s resignation. The post, originally shared by Pradhan three years ago, has gone viral as protests over examination irregularities and the NEET paper leak continue.

In the post on X, Pradhan had praised Wangchuk and Angmo for their efforts in the field of education reform and innovation. He wrote that he appreciated their passion, ideas and efforts towards transforming education, promoting experiential learning, encouraging innovation and supporting sustainable development. The resurfaced post has drawn attention because of the current disagreement between the two public figures.

Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike since June 28 as part of a protest against the handling of education-related issues, including allegations surrounding examination irregularities. Thousands of protesters have reportedly gathered at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, with demands including accountability from the education ministry and the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.

The controversy intensified after protests witnessed a crackdown on demonstrators on July 20. Following the incident, Pradhan issued a statement on X accusing the Congress party of using students for political purposes. He alleged that opposition leaders were attempting to politicise student concerns instead of focusing on constructive solutions to address examination-related challenges.

The minister’s remarks came after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was detained while holding a demonstration outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. The ongoing protests have led to increased political debate over examination security, student concerns and the government’s response to allegations of irregularities.

Meanwhile, Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram after the Delhi High Court allowed his transfer. Wangchuk, who was previously taken to a government hospital after being picked up from Jantar Mantar, and his family have alleged that he was illegally detained. The activist’s continued protest has kept attention focused on demands for reforms in India’s examination and education systems.
