‘Democracy Hijacked’: Rahul Gandhi Accuses EC of Colluding With PM Modi, Shah
Gandhi claims Haryana polls stolen, predicts Bihar manipulation.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has accused the Election Commission of colluding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that the Haryana Assembly elections were compromised through systematic vote theft rather than legitimate democratic processes. Addressing a public gathering in Bihar’s Jamui district, Gandhi asserted that this partnership has severely undermined the foundational principles of Indian democracy, transforming electoral institutions into instruments of political control.
Gandhi described the alleged manipulation as an “industrialized” operation, involving advanced coordination to alter outcomes on a large scale. He warned that identical tactics are likely to be employed in the ongoing Bihar Assembly elections, cautioning voters and opposition parties to remain vigilant. According to him, the integrity of the electoral process has been compromised to such an extent that fair competition is no longer feasible under the current framework.
He explained that fraudulent deletions from voter lists often go undetected because revised electoral rolls are released at the last moment, deliberately limiting opportunities for scrutiny or correction. Gandhi cited the Haryana case as evidence, claiming that thousands of legitimate voters were systematically removed or their votes misappropriated, resulting in an outcome that did not reflect the people’s mandate.

In a direct appeal to the electorate, Gandhi urged residents of Jamui whose names have been omitted from the voter lists to come forward and report the issue. He emphasized that such exclusions are not administrative errors but deliberate acts of disenfranchisement aimed at suppressing opposition strongholds. Congress workers, he assured, stand ready to assist affected citizens in filing formal complaints with the Election Commission.
As Bihar approaches subsequent phases of polling, Gandhi’s allegations have intensified political tensions, prompting sharp rebuttals from the Bharatiya Janata Party, which labeled the claims baseless and defamatory. With concerns over electoral transparency gaining traction among civil society and independent observers, the controversy threatens to cast a long shadow over the remainder of the Bihar elections.
