Delhi’s Masoodpur Flyover Road Caves In, Metro Site Blamed

Traffic Disrupted as DMRC Begins Urgent Repairs

A section of the Mahipalpur–Mehrauli Road near the Masoodpur Flyover in Vasant Kunj caved in on Saturday after a wall collapsed at an under-construction Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) site near D-6, triggering major traffic disruptions. The busy arterial route, connecting South Delhi to the airport and Gurugram, has been closed from Fortis Hospital towards Mahipalpur, with commuters advised to use Aruna Asaf Ali Marg as an alternate route.

The incident, which occurred on a key stretch, led to significant congestion, with local residents raising safety concerns. Snehlata Rathi from the Vasant Kunj residents’ association noted a school bus tire got stuck earlier, highlighting ongoing risks from metro construction. DMRC’s Principal Executive Director, Anuj Dayal, confirmed no injuries or material damage occurred, stating, “The road near the footpath has been barricaded for safety, and restoration work is underway.”

Delhi Traffic Police have deployed personnel to manage the chaos and guide commuters. The advisory urges motorists to follow directions to ensure smooth flow. The cave-in, attributed to structural failure at the metro site, has raised questions about construction safety, with locals demanding stricter oversight. The DMRC is expected to provide updates as repairs progress, with commuters warned of potential delays.
