Delhi Vivek Vihar Fire: Rajnath Singh Expresses Deep Sorrow Over Tragic Incident
Nine killed in Delhi fire, Rajnath Singh expresses condolences.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the tragic fire incident in Vivek Vihar, East Delhi, which claimed nine lives, including that of a toddler. The fire broke out in a four-storey residential building in the early hours of the morning, leading to a large-scale emergency response and rescue operation by fire and police authorities.
The fire reportedly started around 4 a.m. on the second floor of the building located at B-13, Vivek Vihar Phase I. Within minutes of receiving the alert, fire services deployed around 14 fire engines to the site. Police personnel, including the local Station House Officer and Assistant Commissioner of Police, also rushed to the spot along with crime team officials to assist in rescue and investigation efforts.
Emergency responders managed to bring the fire under control by approximately 6 a.m., after which extensive rescue operations were carried out inside the building. Officials said that more than 15 people were rescued during the operation, while at least two individuals sustained minor injuries and were shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment.

Preliminary reports confirmed that nine people lost their lives in the incident. The victims include a toddler, making the tragedy even more devastating for families in the area. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the fire, and investigations are currently underway to determine what triggered the blaze in the densely populated residential structure.
In his statement posted on social media platform X, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said he was “deeply saddened” by the loss of lives in the incident. He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured. His message reflected the national grief over the tragic incident.
Officials have stated that further inquiry is in progress, with teams continuing to examine the site for evidence and possible safety lapses. The incident has raised concerns about fire safety measures in residential buildings, particularly in high-density urban neighbourhoods, as authorities await a detailed report on the cause of the deadly blaze.
