Delhi traffic restricted till 7 pm today for Masoom Ka Tazia procession.
Traffic movement across parts of Central Delhi will be affected on Friday, August 21, due to the Masoom Ka Tazia procession. The Delhi Traffic Police has announced restrictions and diversions to manage vehicular movement during the religious procession. The restrictions will remain in force from 12 pm to 7 pm, with commuters advised to avoid affected roads where possible and use alternative routes.
The procession will begin at Jama Masjid and proceed towards Ajmeri Gate Chowk, passing through Chawri Bazar Road and Ajmeri Gate Road. From Ajmeri Gate Chowk, the procession will move through Pul Paharganj and Chelmsford Road before entering Outer Connaught Circus. It will then proceed towards Karbala in Jor Bagh, where the religious observance will take place.
Authorities expect a large gathering during the procession. Around 60,000 devotees are likely to enter Outer Connaught Circus through Chelmsford Road, while between 80,000 and 90,000 people are expected to gather at Karbala in Jor Bagh. Given the anticipated crowd, commuters travelling through Central Delhi have been advised to plan their journeys in advance and follow traffic instructions issued by the authorities.

Several diversions have been put in place. Traffic from Brijmohan Chowk towards Jama Masjid Gate No. 1 and vehicles travelling from Subhash Cut towards Police Station Jama Masjid will be diverted through Netaji Subhash Marg. Vehicles from Kamla Market Roundabout heading towards Ajmeri Gate Chowk will be diverted towards Connaught Place, with additional diversions through Guru Nanak Chowk or Mirdard Chowk if congestion develops.
Traffic restrictions will also affect roads around Paharganj, Jhandewalan, Inderlok and Shastri Nagar. Vehicles travelling from DBG Road towards Jhandewalan Roundabout will be diverted through Rani Jhansi Road, Panchkuian Road and New Delhi. Traffic from Chitragupt Road towards Paharganj Chowk will follow alternative routes. No traffic will be permitted on Chelmsford Road, with vehicles diverted through Outer Circle and Pul Paharganj.
Commuters heading to New Delhi Railway Station have been advised to use the Ajmeri Gate side for entry. Additional diversions will remain in force around Inderlok, Zakhira Underpass, Shastri Nagar and Bara Hindu Rao Road. The traffic restrictions are expected to continue until 7 pm, and motorists have been advised to allow extra travel time, avoid unnecessary journeys through the affected areas and follow directions from traffic personnel.
