Delhi Traffic Police Enforces Tight Measures Ahead of Akon’s Concert at JLN Stadium

Traffic advisory issued for Akon concert at JLN Stadium.

Delhi Traffic Police has implemented stringent measures ahead of American singer Akon’s electrifying concert on November 9 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, with an estimated 10,000-plus fans expected to flood the venue from across the National Capital Region between 5 PM and 10 PM. The much-anticipated “Akon India Tour 2025” has necessitated a full-scale traffic management plan to prevent chaos in the high-security Lodhi Road area, where VIP movements and dense residential zones already strain daily commutes.

Spectator entry will be strictly limited to Gate Nos. 13 and 14 to streamline crowd flow and enhance security screening, while exclusive parking has been secured at Gate Nos. 7 to 9 and the SCOPE Complex MCD Parking, both reserved by event organizers. Vehicles parked illegally or obstructing access points will face immediate towing, and authorities have issued repeated appeals for attendees to arrive early and use designated lots to avoid last-minute bottlenecks.

From 4 PM to 11 PM, Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs) will be completely prohibited from plying between JLN Stadium Red Light and B.P. Marg to prioritize pedestrian safety and event-related traffic. Commuters are strongly advised to bypass B.P. Marg, CGO Complex Road, and all feeder roads leading to the stadium, as severe congestion is anticipated due to heightened footfall, security cordons, and post-event dispersal.

Emergency response units—including ambulances, fire tenders, and police vehicles—will be granted uninterrupted passage on restricted routes while on duty, though they are urged to opt for parallel corridors to minimize delays. A robust deployment of traffic personnel will man key intersections, enforce diversions, and regulate vehicle movement in real time to maintain order amid the surge.

The public is urged to plan journeys well in advance, monitor live traffic updates, and prioritize metro connectivity—particularly the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium station on the Violet Line—for hassle-free access. Delhi Traffic Police has pledged comprehensive arrangements to mitigate disruption, stressing that public cooperation and strict adherence to on-ground directives will be critical to ensuring the global music icon’s performance unfolds without paralyzing the capital’s core.
